Betty, Diego, & JacobFinding out I was pregnant was a total shock to me. We had not planned to have children but we were thrilled at the thought of being parents. A few months before I had watched a documentary called The Business of Being Born and I from that the moment I knew that if I ever got pregnant I would search for midwifes to deliver my baby. I had a very healthy pregnancy and was very excited to meet my baby Jacob, and that day came on October 2, 2013.
When I began having regular contractions, I called our midwives and a couple of minutes later my husband received a call from Molly. She arrived at my house at about 5AM and shortly after, Monica arrived. The pain was unbearable but both Molly and Monica were very compassionate and sweet to me. I was never pressured to do anything I did not want to do nor was I told to keep calm or to relax. They both just kept giving me words of encouragement which definitely helped me remain calm. And finally at 8:02 am my son was born. That moment was so beautiful! I held my baby as my husband and I lay in bed. My son was never taken out of my sight which was the best part of all. I even got a chance to cut the umbilical cord myself!
After I delivered my son, I thought that the process was too painful to ever get pregnant again. A year later, I realize how beautiful it is to give birth and nurture a child and to do that exactly how you want it done. My husband and I are thinking of starting to plan baby number two in some months from now and I don’t hesitate to say I would love to have Molly and Monica as my midwives one more time.

We would like to thank you… with all three of our healthy beating hearts! Both of you, with your uniquely distinct spirit, knowledge, and character have helped bring about the most incredible gift of life. We felt thoroughly cared for throughout pregnancy (more so than any doctor, physician or caregiver we have ever seen for anything)! We learned so much from you and our birth was beyond wonderful!!! Even when medical attention was needed immediately following birth you all stepped in quickly and were prepared, confident, calm and loving – and took EXTRA care of the situation right here in our home! It was truly remarkable. We never felt anything less than safe and cozy!!! Our journey has been nothing short of perfect thanks to each of you. You all will FOREVER be in our prayers, in our hearts and a dearest part of our family. Our son will know each of your names and voices. And those voices will be the angels that guided him with grace and love into our shared world. His birth story will be defined by our discovery of YOU and our safe, peaceful, loving home birth. Your practice will always be a haven we look to for guidance, knowledge and love.

Molly was the first midwife I met who I related to when she told her story about why she wanted to become a midwife and I knew then that home birth and midwifery care was what I wanted for my family. Monica was the midwife we saw for our first jittery prenatal appointment and finding and hearing the heartbeat for the first time. Both of these women were etched in my memory before they even arrived to our home the night of our delivery. I felt confident and secure having them caring for us during labor. I remember specifically when each of them arrived to our home and how calm I got in labor after connecting with them face to face. They will both always hold a special place in my heart.

Molly and Monica are the best. I was lucky enough to have BOTH of these awesome midwives at my daughter’s birth in August 2012. Although my home water birth didn’t go as planned, with their knowledge, experience and easy going personalities I always felt safe and reassured that WE were making informed decisions together. They continued to have a great attitude throughout my 36 hour labor and even brought candles and twinkle lights to the hospital room!

Molly and Monica are an amazing birth team! I felt completely supported through every step of my pregnancy, home birth, and postpartum. They always answered my questioned effectively and helped me process each experience leaving me to feel empowered. Combining the wisdom of conventional options and traditional ways I was always given options and things to ponder. They also included my husband and helped us transition gracefully into parenthood. I’m excited to have another baby and be able to enjoy another journey with them!!

Monica and Molly are fantastic women and midwives! We switched to midwifery care 20 weeks into our pregnancy and it was the best decision we could have made. They were supportive of our birth plan and managed our pregnancy as a beautiful, natural miracle, and it was just that! Our birth day was the most beautiful event and we had wonderful support from our team of midwives. After the birth, Monica was my angel in disguise. We encountered an emergency when Z was just 5 days old and was rushed to the ER. Monica was immediately available and met us in the NICU and offered her support throughout the 3 days we were there. We didn’t have family in town and Monica served as a friend, a sister, a mother, and midwife. She sat with me as I learned how to pump my milk so I could keep up my supply while Z was in care. I don’t think I would have made it through that weekend if it was not for her! Almost 2 years later, I remember our birth and the ER visit like it happened yesterday. Monica will always be a part of our story, and loved for the amazing care she bestowed upon our family.

Giving birth = giving over, and it’s helpful to have people in the room who support and promote that freedom. Monica was my midwife for both my little giants. She was so understanding and culturally sensitive. My first at-home pregnancy was filled with doubts, but her demeanor and assurance kept us calm. She reiterated that my body was capable…and it was! I delivered a 9’7 pound boy with no tearing. The environment she helped foster allowed me to be free and I will forever be thankful for her support and love. My second pregnancy was even better – she trusted my instincts. Although my son was not breathing immediately (which is typical in some births but still scary) she was so calm as she worked with him to breath.. After 10 seconds of prayer my little tyke took his breath and hasn’t stopped wiggling since. He was 10 pounds – again, no tearing! Rest assured – you are in the best hands possible!
