“Finding out I was pregnant was a total shock to me. We had not planned to have children but we were thrilled at the thought of being parents. A few months before I had watched a documentary called The Business of Being Born and I from that the moment I knew that if I ever got pregnant I would search for midwifes to deliver my baby. I had a very healthy pregnancy and was very excited to meet my baby Jacob, and that day came on October 2, 2013.

When I began having regular contractions, I called LA Midwife Collective and a couple of minutes later my husband received a call from our midwife. She arrived at my house at about 5AM. The pain was unbearable but Monica was very compassionate and sweet to me. I was never pressured to do anything I did not want to do nor was I told to keep calm or to relax. She just kept giving me words of encouragement which definitely helped me remain calm. And finally at 8:02 am my son was born. That moment was so beautiful! I held my baby as my husband and I lay in bed. My son was never taken out of my sight which was the best part of all. I even got a chance to cut the umbilical cord myself!

After I delivered my son, I thought that the process was too painful to ever get pregnant again. A year later, I realize how beautiful it is to give birth and nurture a child and to do that exactly how you want it done. My husband and I are thinking of starting to plan baby number two in some months from now and I don’t hesitate to say I would love to have Monica as my midwife one more time.”

“Monica is a fantastic women and midwife! We switched to midwifery care 20 weeks into our pregnancy and it was the best decision we could have made. They were supportive of our birth plan and managed our pregnancy as a beautiful, natural miracle, and it was just that! Our birth day was the most beautiful event and we had wonderful support from our midwife. After the birth, Monica was my angel in disguise. We encountered an emergency when Z was just 5 days old and was rushed to the ER. Monica was immediately available and met us in the NICU and offered her support throughout the 3 days we were there. We didn’t have family in town and Monica served as a friend, a sister, a mother, and midwife. She sat with me as I learned how to pump my milk so I could keep up my supply while Z was in care. I don’t think I would have made it through that weekend if it was not for her! Almost 2 years later, I remember our birth and the ER visit like it happened yesterday. Monica will always be a part of our story, and loved for the amazing care she bestowed upon our family.”

I delivered a 9’7 pound boy with no tearing. The environment she helped foster allowed me to be free and I will forever be thankful for her support and love. My second pregnancy was even better – she trusted my instincts. Although my son was not breathing immediately (which is typical in some births but still scary) she was so calm as she worked with him to breath.. After 10 seconds of prayer my little tyke took his breath and hasn’t stopped wiggling since. He was 10 pounds – again, no tearing! Rest assured – you are in the best hands possible!”
